Dobków is a classic Sudeten chain village located along the valley of a mountain stream, which simultaneously marks the boundary between the Kaczawskie Mountains and Foothills. It is very charmingly located, surrounded by hills with plenty of forests and cultivated fields. Just climb a bit on the slopes surrounding it to reveal truly picturesque views to your eyes. The village is over 800 years old, as the first mentions of it come from 1203. It was founded by settlers from Franconia and was managed by the Cistercians. For this reason, it was a Catholic enclave in a region mainly inhabited by Protestants. A characteristic remnant of those times are numerous chapels scattered around the village and vents in the shape of crosses often found in farm buildings. This is very characteristic of Dobków and rarely seen in Lower Silesia, as such elements had no application in the Protestant tradition. The village was inhabited by up to 1000 people, and today there are about 500 inhabitants.
there is the
Sudeten Educational Farmhouse, largely renovated through the effort of the local community. An interactive Earth science center about the history of volcanism and geology has been established in its buildings, as we are in the Land of Extinct Volcanoes. It is a treat for children and youth, but also adults – families can spend time learning about the history of the surrounding area and also participate in many themed workshops or plan trips around the area.
Dobków has an artistic spirit. There are three family ceramic workshops operating here, where real gems are handcrafted. The most common motifs are plant, natural ones and figures of angels. The studios invite guests to visit, you can participate in workshops learning handcrafting or simply buy some original products. Recently, the Forge of Ancient Crafts has also been operating, where, among other things, workshops for baking figurative gingerbread are held, which has a centuries-old tradition in Lower Silesia. The village’s location far from large cities and industry allows you to indulge in real rural life. The existing apiaries provide healthy honey, and the slow-food restaurant operating in the village serves delicious meals from local and seasonal products.
Oh, we forgot about the field game around Dobków! It is an attraction mainly for the youngest, but the parents accompanying them during its course will certainly be able to admire the surrounding views 🙂
